Divination is essential in Indigenous Religions.
Diviniation is communication with one’s Ancestors and Spirits Guides using a variety of methods including playing cards, tarot, bone throwing, shell interpretation, throwing dice, astrology, dream divination, bibliomancy and more.
Divination is far from fortune telling. When practiced by a skilled person, it becomes a powerful tool. Divination helps you see things from a new angle, empowering you to make informed decisions and navigate life's challenges with greater self-reflection.
Divination allows you to know the forces at work that are guiding our lives and whatever problem we come to the diviner to resolve. However, diviners don’t do fortune telling in the way it is known today. Instead of claiming to know the future, diviners work in the realm of possibility. A good diviner tells you the likely outcome of events as they exist at the moment of the reading unless something is done to change it. Divination doesn’t tell you everything but tells you what you need to know in that moment.

Melissa is a novice! She has been fascinated by tarot for 7+ years but only picked up playing card divination in 2024. She believes that divination is a powerful tool for healing and self reflection. Her aim with divination is to improve her own skills and help others self actualize. Melissa bases her divination practice in the Indigenous Religion of Santeria and when she is divining for these sessions she is communicating with her ancestors.
Ancestor veneration is at the heart of Melissa’s divination practice. Ancestor veneration is a mutually beneficial relationship between us and our ancestors. Our Ancestors have been through a great deal and they give us guidance so we don’t have to go through the same thing or we can look at our difficult experiences in a new light. In the same way, by us remembering and venerating our ancestors they feel seen and heard and appreciated. Ancestor veneration isn’t worshipping our Ancestors- as Santeria and other Indigenous religions are considered Monothestic. Ancestor veneration is communication and reciprocation.
Just know that Melissa isn’t speaking to some random voice in the universe when she reads- she’s tapping into the wisdom of a life source flowing back generations and a tradition that is practiced by Indigenous communities worldwide.
